You may not find that anxiety after eating is common after typing ‘anxiety after eating’ into a search engine. There are articles, as well as listings for forums, and question/answer boards. You are not alone with your anxiety after eating, and in talking to different people from different locales, you will feel better when you find that there are many others just like you.
Do You Know Why It’s Happening?
Do you know what is causing your anxiety after eating? If not, here are a few things to think about:
-
Does anyone in your family have the same, or similar issues?
-
Have you ever been diagnosed with a food allergy and/or panic attacks/anxiety attacks, general anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, or anything else similar?
-
Does anyone in your family have Celiac Disease, Gluten Intolerance/Insensitivity, I.B.S., Lactose Intolerance, Crohn’s Disease, or any other gastrointestinal or digestive system illnesses?
Genetics
If anyone in your family also has anxiety after eating, then that could be the key to you coming up with a solution. Surely, you don’t want to wait until this family member decides to go to the doctor to get checked. Do what you have to do for you and do it right away.
Maybe your family member(s) have always had some type of illness but never found out. Anxiety after eating is mysterious, yet, if you have the determination and motivation, you can and will find out why you feel anxious after eating.
Food Allergies and Physical/Mental Health
Are you eating that which you are allergic to? Maybe you are allergic to certain types of food that you aren’t aware of. Our bodies change every seven years, at least that is what ‘they’ say. If it isn’t every seven years, it is certainly every so often, and you can have new allergies and not know it. Going to a specialist that tests you for allergies is the first place you should start, right after you see your family doctor for a referral.
There is a subtle food allergy that many have but don’t know it. It’s called a gluten sensitivity. Many people have a sensitivity to gluten but will never know. Blood tests don’t show it. Many people are finding the truth out every day, and they begin their gluten free diets and never look back. They begin to drop weight easily and feel better in every way.
Gluten is known to cause emotional disorders as well as physical, and this could very well be the reason why you get anxiety after eating. There are many books, articles, and websites dedicated to the war against gluten. It’s not only in wheat bread, but it’s in fast, fried, and processed foods, and also in dressings, syrups, and cereals. Gluten may very well be the cause of the following illnesses and many more:
-
Bipolar Disorder
-
A.D.H.D.
-
Autism
-
I.B.S.
-
Lactose Intolerance
-
Crohn’s Disease
The only way for you to find out if this is the cause of your anxiety after eating is to experiment by not eating gluten for at least a month and see if the anxiety goes away. You will also feel better, have more energy, and maybe even help yourself to heal from any other mental or physical health problem you are facing.
